Apple iPhone XR Review

Apple released its first phone the “1st generation Apple iPhone” on June 2007. Since then every year, Apple started rolling its premium flagship smartphones into the market and now it had emerged into the first trillion dollar company in the world. The Apple iPhone XR is launched in October 2018. The review and its complete specifications are:

Apple iPhone XR

The display of the Apple iPhone XR is the 6.1 inches, new Liquid retina display with 19.5: 9 display. It pretty much sits between the iPhone XS’ 5.8-inch screen and the iPhone XS Max’s 6.5 inches screen. The resolution of the screen is 828 x 1792 pixels with 326 PPI density. It also features the oleophobic coating(oil resistant). The phone comes with a wide colour gamut display which enhances the sharpness of the screen for a more realistic appearance. There is no 3D touch available in this phone but a pressure sensitive feature is present which Apple calls it a Haptic touch. The phone also features true tone display which helps to adjust the screen brightness to the colour temperature based on the surrounding light.

The Apple iPhone XR is powered by the latest Apple’s A12 bionic chipset. Apple says that it can perform 5 trillion operations per second and it is also considered to be the next generation neural engine which delivers extraordinary performance. It is a hexacore processor chipset which delivers 30 % faster performance than the previous Apple’s A11 bionic chipset. The GPU comes with quad-core graphics which provides 50 % faster gaming performance than the A11 bionic chipset for high-end gaming performance.
The iPhone XR comes with 3 GB of RAM and three storage variants from 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB.

The Apple iPhone XR has a single rear camera but delivers far better photos than many single-camera smartphones in the market. It got the same specifications of the main camera in the iPhone XS. It is a 12 MP, f/1.8 aperture wide angle lens. The rear camera also features OIS(Optical Image Stabilization), PDAF(Phase Detection AutoFocus), quad-LED dual-tone flash. It can take 2160p 4k videos at 60 fps and the slow-motion videos at 1080p at 240 fps.

Despite the single camera lens, portrait mode works perfectly in Apple iPhone XR but it can only detect human faces. However, Google pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL having a single camera can detect every object. The digital zoom feature makes us forget the secondary telephoto lens. It also has the Smart-HDR feature which adds up more details to your photos according to the scene. The depth control mode enables us to control the background blur as you want. The low light photos weren’t too grainy as well and bring in a lot of details in the photos.

The front facing camera is the same true-depth camera from the iPhone XS and comes with 7 MP f/2.2 aperture. The portrait mode works pretty well and detects the edges of the object accurately. The versatility of the camera is better and much closer to the iPhone XS camera. It can take 1080 p HD videos at 60 fps.

The Apple iPhone XR comes with rear glass panel and the sides are covered by an aluminium frame despite the stainless steel frame on the iPhone XS. It comes with Corning gorilla glass 5 protection. This phone also has a physical sim and an e-Sim similar to the iPhone XS. The rear side looks familiar to the iPhone 8 with that single camera and to the front, you get the iPhone X and XS look. There is no fingerprint scanner but comes with the Face ID unlock which is pretty reliable. The Face ID can also be used to securely login into the apps. This phone is IP67 water, splash and dust resistant. There is no headphone jack and Apple didn’t even include the USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter in the box. You can go with the USB-C earpods which come with the phone or purchase the wireless earbuds.

After iPhone 5C, Apple had decided to launch the iPhone in different colours. The Apple iPhone XR comes in six stunning colours: red, black, white, blue, coral, yellow. The blue, coral and yellow variants are a must try as we had seen other colours frequently. This is the change you need from the same boring colour variants of the iPhones.

The Apple iPhone XR comes with 2942 Mah capacity battery. Despite its low capacity, it gives a full day battery life with normal usage. The battery life is found better than the Google Pixel 3’s battery. The phone supports wireless charging and it should be purchased separately.

The stunning colour variants, the extraordinary camera, A12 bionic chipset performance, best Face ID technology, it had got everything at an affordable price range. This phone shares many features with the iPhone XS with some features missing out. It may not be absolutely top-notch, but it had got far better features than many smartphones at this price range. If you found some features missing in the iPhone XR, then going for iPhone XS and XS Max is the alternative. The other alternative includes Google Pixel 3 on the Android side with better camera and software features within this price range. If you are willing to pay a few more bucks, then Samsung S9 plus, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Huawei Mate 20 pro are some of them.
